Vegan Skincare - How it Affects Your Skin & Your Environment

Vegan skincare is on the rise and there’s a good reason for it!

Feeling unsure about what exactly “Vegan Skincare” is? You’re probably not alone! Even if you're a dairy and meat lover, you might still be interested in vegan skincare and the benefits it has for both your skin and the environment.

A certified vegan product indicates that there are no animal-derived ingredients used in the product.

You might be wondering, “what animal-derived ingredient could they possibly be putting in our products?? Hooves?!”. Well, animal-derived ingredients are way more common than you might initially expect, but here are a few examples that you'll probably recognize:

Honey, beeswax, lanolin, collagen, carmine, cholesterol, gelatin, squalene and stearic acid to just name a few!

This means, while the cosmetics market has been on the rise, so has use of ingredients like these. As companies, brands need to stop depleting these resources and as consumers, we need to make the switch to vegan friendly products to motivate this change in brands.

Reducing use of non-vegan products not only greatly benefits the environment, but is also way better for the skin!

It’s said that vegan skin care products are less likely to lead to irritation or other issues that can come along with chemicals, animal ingredients, or other additives. They are more natural, gentle and easy on the skin when they are free of animal-derived ingredients.

Which means anyone suffering from a skin condition like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis (to just name a few), would benefit even more from using vegan friendly skincare products.

Lastly, it’s important to note that Cruelty Free and Vegan Friendly are not the same, and are not interchangeable terms.

Cruelty free is a label for products that were manufactured or developed by methods that do not involve experimentation on animals. Vegan friendly means there are no animal-derived ingredients used.

To sum up, using products that are vegan friendly can only do good for your skin! And while you're giving your skin better care, you're also making a smarter choice that positively affects our environment.
